Award Show News From the New Denver Ad Club

Big announcement on this year’s reinvented show.

First they banished dodge ball from elementary schools. Then 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons were replaced by Certificates of Participation. Now the New Denver Ad Club (NDAC) has the audacity to create an awards program without, well, any awards.

The NDAC is calling entries for the inaugural Denver 50, the first idea-centric award show. Rather than another awards show with backslapping, gladhanding and plastic pieces of hardware that gather dust, the Denver 50 only recognizes the best 50 creative executions from the Denver area. No categories, no subcategories of other categories. No golds, silvers or bronzes. It’s all about the creative and you’re either in, or you’re not. 50, that’s it.

Why the Denver 50? Because advertising in the year 2007 isn’t about tactics, it’s about ideas. Advertising is about ideas, and ideas are bigger than individual executions and bigger than individuals.

Ideas are cool and this seems like a big one. Read the rest here.
