Get Your Gossip Here

While we’re waiting on one shop to get a release together that they’ve promised us, let’s talk about some other ones. We’ll start. We’ve seen people searching the term “McClain Finlon closing doors” all day and hitting on our site. Anybody know anything about that? How about anything else you’d like to share with the group? Don’t be shy. We’re all friends here.

  1. They let the remaining employees know today. Bummer for the Denver Ad community.

  2. It’s true. Done next Friday. Very very sad. An amazingly talented group of people, some moved here from out-of-state to work for this agency. If you’re in the industry here in Denver, please be open to meeting with members of this group and please consider them for opportunities. Please.

  3. Let’s hope it’s not. That would not bode well for Denver’s ad community.

  4. Wow, that sucks. The end of an era. And a lot of talented people on the street. Sad day.

  5. how many people did they have left there?

  6. Is it just me or does it seem weird that an agency would be setup in such a way that it completely folds if one client walks away? I know it was their biggest account but my god, this is the nature of the beast. Clients move around all the time – did they just consider this an impossibility for some reason? Someone enlighten me.

  7. Phone companies are never known for the sort of advertising that makes people want to get into the business. But I have to say, McClain’s stuff for Qwest was miles ahead of the poorly produced “In the Loop” campaign that we’re seeing since the telco took their $95 million account to Draftfcb in Chicago.

If the McClain rumor is true, I’ll be sorry to hear it. Best of luck to everyone.

  8. i’m in disbelief about this news — very sad for the Denver creative community.

  9. It is what it is. And yes, the rumor is true. Instead of coulda, shoulda, woulda, (never mind the last two comments), why don’t we lend our support to the individuals that have been affected?
Attempting to help Denver sucks less, daily.

  10. We’re open to helping. Sincerely. Do you have any ideas on how we might do so? We encourage people to send us their work/resumes and we’ll do what we can to plug them in. Be much cooler to do a wider, smarter effort around it if anyone can come up with anything. Anyone?

NOTE: We removed the two comments ViewFromTheInside was referencing as they had no value to this discussion whatsoever beyond revealing the ignorance of the person who posted them.

  11. I’m working on a Comcast project right now, and the client wants it to be a piece specifically taking aim at Qwest. Got some ideas I like, but maybe I’ll put the thinking cap back on and concept some more. Best of luck McClain folks. You’ll land.

  12. Hi Advertising Community. Thank you so much for all your words of support. I want to let you know what is happening here. As our employees and clients know, my goal was to transition McClain Finlon to our President so I could retire. Rebuilding in a down economy takes tons of juice and after having done it about 4 times already, I wasn’t up for it. Unfortunately, the financing we’d planned fell through—it’s a difficult economy. McClain Finlon will continue as a small consulting practice. Our employees will need all your support as they look for new opportunities. They are terrific. I love this business. It’s completely nuts. So do not give up. Denver is a great creative community and you are the inspiration.
