Wednesday Morning Poll #22

A year of hype lead up to last night’s Denver 50 Show, the New Denver Ad Club’s annual award event. We’ve got our own assessment of what went down – from the venue to the music to the food to the vibe to, most importantly, the work on display. But before we decide whether to blame it all on our bad mood last night, we wanted to get a sense of what you thought of the show from those who hit it. So, hit it.

  1. The venue was great, I love the mile high station. The food rocked, and it was good to catch up with some faces I don’t get to see everyday.

But beyond that, I think the $75.00 price tag was a bit steep, considering I also had to pay for my own drinks.

  2. I had a blast. The price is a little much, but it’s for a good cause. Plus, someone else bought my fruity drinks.

  3. We did not go because we cannot justify paying that much money and not being in New York. There was absolutely no justification for that price. Last year I remember that huge price tag, and then I had the pleasure of paying for 6 dollar beers. I have paid less for ResFest and Promax… and those were 4 days worth of events. No thanks, but I hope you all had fun.

  5. It was a well put together show. The music wasn’t so great though, what was that? Food was great, people were nice and welcoming. Overall, it was a nice experience despite the price tag.

In terms of the work, it might as well have been named the Sukle and Factory show. If I remember correctly, Jim Glynn collected something like 9 credits. I think Andy Dutlinger had about 7 to his name.

Some of the creatives from Factory weren’t that far off, either.

That might have been balanced a bit more if Cultivator (the photographer entered the New Belgium work, not them) and TDA entered. I guess we just need to be thankful CP+B didn’t enter, because then it would have been named the Crispin 48 and the Sukle and Factory 1.

  7. I thought the event was well done. Congrats to all the winners. I thought it was cool that Cactus didn’t list individual credits.

  8. Yeah $50/$75 is steep but you have to realize that books/venue/food are not cheap. Also this party funds many other events throughout the year. If you want to complain maybe you should ask yourself why you didn’t step up to contribute or call in a favor from some of your clients. We could have had a DJ/band, free food and free drinks. Look at your client list! Isn’t it our job to get client’s products in front of people?

The committee that put the event together did a great job with limited resources (Lindsey, Lauren & Matt – you ROCK). Also thanks to all the sponsors that helped make this event a success.

  10. I had a blast! It was well worth renewing my membership. Good friends… great ideas… cool book. I had no problem with the price. Events like this are gonna cost money and time. Congrats to the winners.

Special thanks go to Lindsey who worked so hard to set up and break down… And to anyone else who made this such a great party! Oh, and thanks to Cactus for the Lotto tickets. I won. Every bit counts.

  11. I thought it was a great venue as well. The food was stellar but I kept getting pissed about everybody taking those little roast beef sandwiches before I could get my paws on them. I had to settle for a cheese slice and a cracker most of the night.

The winners had some really great work but I didnt like how one agency could submit several peices of work from one campaign. I love the Denver Water campaign but to have an award for almost every individual execution was a bit much.
